Permafrost et Dynamiques Periglaciaires
Very few studies exist in the tropical belt on active rock glaciers. These forms of satured permafrost are rare in the tropical mountains, except where the Equilibrium Line Altitude (ELA) of glaciers is situated 1000m and more higher than the freezing level (FL). This is the case in southern Bolivia (ELA above 6000 m.a.s.l.; FL at 4800-4900 m.a.s.l.), where some active rock glaciers exist above 5400 m.a.s.l. in south-facing cirques. The Caquella’s rock glacier is observed since 1996 by the Great Ice’s program.
